Original Style

In 1935, Paul Sperry designed the first nonslip sole for boat shoes. They were very popular right out of the blocks.  The Sperry Top-Sider became the official shoe of the U.S. Navy in WWII, and the America’s Cup, in the 1980s.

If you live in the world of boats, and the seaside life style, Sperry is waiting for you to join their family.  They outfit men, women and kids with shoes and much more.

Today we are going to focus on the Sperry Top-Sider Men’s Boat Shoe.  We believe that there is no turning back once you put a pair of Sperry’s on your feet.

Top-siders for Comfort

Slide your feet into a soft Sahara coloured leather boat shoe, featuring a moccasin-stitched toe, with rust-resistant eyelets, and of course, the slotted collar.

Think of it as a special gift for your feet.  They deserve a break, and the shock absorbing heel cup will do the job. The outsole is non-marking in either wet or dry situations, providing you with lots of stable traction, when you need it most.

The shaft measures approximately 2.75” from the arch. This is important because most people, if not all people, rank “comfort” as their number 1 reason for purchasing a pair of shoes, boots, or any other footwear.

While the insole is nearly invisible, few things play a greater role in the way a shoe performs.  If the sole is stiff, you will get more stability.  Lighter more flexible soles, enhance your agility.

The flex is also important, and Sperry has that under control as well with these 12x7x5 inch Top-Siders.

Customer Boat Shoe Comments

Some “shoe lovers” tie them once and keep them tied for easy slip on and off loafers.

Some fans wash them with soap and water, and dry them in the sun, while others coat the leather with mink oil to maintain the original colour.

Some customers hate them, and say they’ve come unglued, while others wear them for years, and can’t live without them – socks or no socks, they feel great!

Thousands have bought Sperry boat shoes and the reviews range from “a waste of money”, to “they look and feel great”.

However, it is worth noting that around 64% of the over 3000 reviewers rated these boat shoes at 5 stars, and we are very democratic here at Best Walking Shoe Reviews and we go with the majority, especially for under $200.

This original classical A/0 Sperry topsider boat shoe has been around for over 70 years and so have I.  The hand-sewn leather construction uses modern materials and styles, and that’s just my style.

They are comfortable whether you are on land or sea, and I am a big fan of boats and sailing the high seas.  I strongly recommend that you go for this classical brown leather shoe, because I did over a year ago, when I found a pair a my local thrift shop.

I looked them up on the Net and discovered that there are color options from deep red to bright yellow, and you can even design your own to make it all you.  I love my boat shoes!  By the way, at 70 years, I wear them every day no matter what the weather.
