Since sitting down for hours on end gives you cancer or something, you have (correctly) decided to rectify the situation and save your arse (literally it seems) by investing in a treadmill that fits under your desk.
This will have the beneficial effects of letting you exercise like a demon, AND still get some valuable work done. Because after all, who wants to have to exercise in their spare time? Why not walk as you work, and kill two birds with one stone?
Of course, there are some who want to use this in front of the TV as well, without it dominating the whole room. You may want this because of a back problem which makes sitting for long periods an issue. In any event, these three are our pick of the best small treadmills that fit under your desk.
In our expert opinion, any one of these three will fit the bill nicely, and allow you to carry on working whilst also getting some useful exercise in. And they have the added advantage of not towering over your office or living room, like a kind of metallic monolith, and are less noisy than a tactical nuclear strike.
Yes, you can even take speaker phone calls from these things. It’s just win win win whichever way you look at it!
So here’s our top choices…
The slightly pricier model from Lifespan, the TR1200-DT3 is the more accommodating of the two, being suitable for users up to 350 pounds in weight – this is a lot!
Also, the belt is a generous 20 inches wide, so you won’t feel like you’re about to fall off too easily – which is probably just as well, because obviously, as an under desk treadmill, there is nothing to hold onto (apart from your desk of course)
The top speed is 4 mph which we think is fast enough, considering this is firmly a walking machine, not a running one, and of course you want to be able to complete tasks like typing whilst using it.
This fits nicely under your desk, and won’t take up oodles of precious space, whilst still being a good solid treadmill that isn’t going to slip or crumble easily.
No, there’s no incline on it – this is deemed unsuitable for walking desk use – you probably would find it hard to navigate your spreadsheet walking up a hill after all. None of our featured models have one either.
We are struggling a bit to find a fault with this machine, with such good feedback, the only very minor point being the beeping is a bit annoying – but this can be disabled by following the instructions online.
Here we have the cheaper of the two models by Lifespan, a company that people seem to have overwhelmingly positive feedback for. We like the fact that they get involved in the online questions and queries about their product, and offer practical advice too.
Once again, this works straight out of the box, and is nice and quiet.
The main difference seems to be the slightly lighter weight limit – but at 300 pounds, this is hardly nothing! It is a shade narrower, and a tad longer than the other model and apart from that, has all the same specs.
Customers feel this is a sturdy, reliable treadmill that can be used in the office easily and safely, and there are very few complaints about it – it’s not often we can say that!
Our final choice is the Rebel Desk 1000. This has the distinction of being a (relative) lightweight at 88 pounds, but of course you will hardly be throwing it up in the air or anything.
Once again, we are satisfied that this works straight out of the box with a minimum of fuss, and is a nice and easy user experience all round.
It is quiet enough to work over, and can be wheeled into place quite easily.
Office workers who have used the Rebel Desk seem completely wowed by it, and also have good things to say about the company customer service ethos.
One or two people think that the top speed (2 mph) which is less than the two Lifespans, is not adequate. However, this treadmill review believes that in order for a walking treadmill to really be safe and effective (i.e. imagine yourself typing a complicated document and not making any mistakes or falling off) then this is the correct speed for it to be going at.
Comes highly recommended by all.
