That’s Latin for “A sound mind in a sound body”, and that’s where the popular brand name ASICS came from, when, in 1977, founder of ASICS, Kihachiro Onitsuka began his footwear company, in order to provide customers with a shoe that encourages a healthy lifestyle, and brings “harmony to the body and soul”.
This is a rather deep philosophy for a shoe company, right? But that’s part of the reason that Asics Men’s Gel-Tech Walker Neo 4 walking shoes are rated as one of the best walking shoes around.
Asics puts a lot of thought and care into their shoes, which are designed for comfort and durability, so you can walk to your heart’s content. Lets take a look at what makes this shoe so darn great.

Usability
As an avid walker (I walk a few miles every day, and I’m in my 60’s), I must say that these shoes pose no issues whatsoever as far as using them on a pretty much daily basis.
I’m very fickle with my footwear, so if I were to notice that these shoes just weren’t doing the job, I would stop using them completely, and Asics would be hearing from me personally, as I’m not afraid to pick up the phone and let people have it like the old days.
If any company thinks that email will suffice as customer service, they are wrong in my books.
Luckily for all involved, I have been using these Neo 4’s for about half a year, and they are holding up very well, so no need for me to start making heads roll.
Comfortable
At this stage in the game, as someone with chronic arthritis and foot problems, these shoes have a generous amount of gel, and they support my foot nicely as I walk.
I won’t say I immediately thought these were the greatest walking shoes known to man, but after lacing them a few different ways, they have become my go-to walking shoe because they fit like a glove.
I’m no shoe scientist, but Asics have definitely done something right in terms of cushioning your feet against impact.
I’ve worn lighter walking shoes, (Skechers), and while they are very comfortable, I need something a little more substantial when I’m going out and about.
I’m not going to take these shoes to a fashion show, or take a nap in them, I just want to take them walking, and as far as that goes, these shoes are plenty comfortable.
When I wear them I feel motivated to go for walks and get some exercise, which is all I ask for. A comfortable shoe to go walking in. Nothing too crazy!
Value (Best Walking Shoes For The Money)
If you take a close look at these Neo 4 walking shoes, you can quite easily see that they are well designed, and therefore they provide you with good value for the price you pay.
I’m not one to cut corners when buying something that’s high quality. If it’s high quality, I’m willing to pay for it, as long as it actually is at the level of quality they say it is.
Luckily, the Asics Neo 4’s are of the highest quality for a walking shoe, so it warrants the price tag, which for me was about $100 on Amazon.
So if you’re looking for a cheaper shoe, I’m sure you can find one, but if you’re looking for a better shoe, then I’m not so sure.
Style and Colors
These shoes only come in two colors – black and white – which might seem like hardly any selection, but it just so happens I’m a black shoe type of guy, so I was ok with that.
The style of these Neo 4‘s also suits me. They’re rather sporty, but you could get away with wearing them for different reasons other than walking around the block, like..I don’t know, a patio party?
That said, I could understand if people expected more from the color selection of these shoes, but it just so happens I’m a ‘no frills’ type of person, so it all works out for me.
Customer Care
In terms of customer care, I have found Asics to be quite compassionate about some of my complaints. I can’t say that for every company I’ve dealt with.
There was one time my grandson even threw one of my shoes into raging rapids while on a camping trip, and when I got home, I was able to persuade Asics to send me a free pair of shoes!
After that scenario, they basically made themselves a customer for life, as they really didn’t have to do that. Maybe it was just my lucky day!
Conclusion
These shoes work great for me, and I’d recommend these Asics Neo 4’s to anyone who loves to walk.
