THE STYLE
“Wow what a trendy pair of men’s sandals, I’ll be sure to set the fashion scene alight with these!”
Said nobody, ever, about any pair of men’s sandals in the annals of time.
We have to be realistic! We know that generally if you put together the words “men” and “sandal”, you conjure up the image of a hippy at a festival, or at best, maybe Jesus.
So realizing that sandals and the style conscious make uneasy bedfellows, we begin to notice when a pair of men’s sandals come along that don’t completely make us abandon all hope of being able to wear them in a casual, or even maybe a smart casual capacity.
Compared to the styling of –ahem- some sandals out there, these do not score too badly.
They can definitely be coupled with a pair of jeans and a shirt, and will pass muster in a variety of social situations.
Their website says that these are made from nubuck leather, which means it has been treated to look more velvety in appearance.
This gives an overall finish to the sandal which makes it look a little smarter than some of the ‘gnarled and chewed’ looking leathers do.
It is still highly hard wearing though.
THE FIT
When we review shoes on this website, the one thing we notice a lot is a high level of discrepancies when it comes to the fit. In other words, buying shoes over the internet without trying them on generally comes with ‘bags of failure’.
However, with this particular model, we have found that is not the case. 90% of people who responded stated that these fit correctly. This is a pretty high statistic, we have got to say, so hats off to Ecco for managing this!
Size wise, these come in a pretty broad range, from a US size six to a sixteen and a half. Half sizes are available, and there should be no problem finding something to fit you.
THE MATERIALS
This style utilizes nubuck leather, which is hard-wearing, as well as attractive to look at. The outer sole is a highly durable rubber and the mid-soles are PU injected.
This means they are supportive, lightweight to wear, as well as comfortable to stand and walk long distances.
The textile linings are of a stretchy material, which make the fit and wearing snug and easy on the foot.
There is CMEVA on the foot bed, helping to keep any evil bacterial infections at bay and control the odor that might build up on the sole.
The result is that these sandals bend and stretch pretty well and the materials are hardwearing, as well as supportive. The best of both worlds, in other words!
THE DESIGN
The Yucatan is an easy to slip on and off design, with no fussy buckles or laces. They have a hook and loop fitting with Velcro. This makes them no problem to put on and take off again.
The stretchiness of the materials means there is plenty of give in this design, and there should be room to expand if necessary.
Its sole should ensure a longevity not normally associated with casual sandals, and it should definitely be understood that this is a walking sandal.
Plenty of people have stated how they have worn these all day everyday, and notched up many, many miles in them. So far, only a fleetingly small number of them have said there was any problem with the comfort or the support that this design has given.
The PU sole with CMEVA foot bed make it great support for your arches, and also help eliminate any smells that may build up.
The soles should ensure that you don’t slip or trip, on any terrain, but one thing we should mention, is that this is not a waterproof sandal. It might be fine for a little bit of rain, but it is not for wading through mud or puddles!
THE COMFORT
Here, we get to the most important question. What does it actually feel like to have on the Ecco’s Men Yucatan Sandal? Well, this is the good news. It feels great.
Nearly everyone agrees that these are some of the most comfortable sandals on the market. Many swear it is the most comfy thing they have ever worn in their lives. Several people keep these sandals for slippers in the winter months, because they are so nice to wear.
It doesn’t matter how many miles you notch up on these beauties, they should always leave your feet feeling cool, relaxed and well supported.
Anyone with fallen arches or other foot problems, could do a lot worse than buy a pair of these, and yes, they are the walker’s friend to boot.
THE LONGEVITY
So, these are a good fit and very comfortable to have on. But how long could you expect for a pair of these Ecco’s Men Yucatan Sandals to actually last, before they depart for the great shoe box in the sky?
Well, a lot of this will depend on exactly how much use they get of course. But from looking at what previous customers have to say, it could be anything between a couple of years and a decade.
The main reason for repeated purchases has been mainly from people looking for different colors or styles.
Of course, they will wear out eventually, but you would have to do a lot of miles before that happens!
ARE THESE GOOD VALUE FOR MONEY?
It has to be said, that at around the $130 mark, this is a fair whack to be paying for a sandal. But then, they may last many years, and could be the most comfortable thing your feet ever experience apart from a foot spa.
So we think it is worth it. It may be even more worthwhile if you shop around, as we found them starting from as little as $54 or more. For that price we would say you almost couldn’t go wrong!
If you buy a pair of these Ecco Mens Yucatans your feet will thank you forever!
