These are a flip flop with a difference. The Skechers On The Go 400 Vivacity Flip Flop are a sturdy looking construction that seem as if they were built to last. Or at least, last as long as any flip flops can do.
Quite often, one of the major complaints of flip flops are that the grips on them are sadly lacking and they send you skidding all over the place – especially when on wet grounds.
Just by looking at these On The Go 400’s we wouldn’t think that this would be a problem. According to the manufacturer’s literature, these come equipped with something called a GOimpulse sensor for improved traction.
Certainly, if you turn these over and have a look at the soles, they are incredibly chunky looking and seem as if they should be good over wet and even slippery terrain.
We don’t know if this means they are necessarily built for rough treatment and actual long distance walking in – but they definitely should be able to handle walks along the beach and the wet poolside, without sending you sliding.
Featuring a Goga Max insole, these promise to support your feet and will act as a shock absorber, so your foot doesn’t have to. This should make running and other types of more vigorous movement far more comfortable than in a lot of flip flops.
Generally, flip flops can have a fairly flimsy construction, which, to put it bluntly, do your feet no favors.
Anyone who has ever walked a long distance in a pair of insubstantial flip flops knows the “smacked foot” syndrome, where your poor feet feel as if they have been flailed alive by a cat o nine tails.
With the absorbency of the sole and the 5GEN midsole material adding layers of bliss to your feet, we think that these look like a comfortable wearing experience and should perform infinitely better than ‘most’ flip flops.
But then, you would expect that, given that these are Skechers and therefore not your common or garden flip flops.
Skechers make shoes that are designed not only for comfort, which we would take for granted from these sturdy looking flip flops, but also they build things to last as well.
We would hope that you will be able to put these through their paces, on the beach, on the street or more or less anywhere you want to wear them – for casual use, at least.
Whilst these look the part, we are not sure we would go for a marathon rock climb in them – although the soles seem as if they will withstand the pressure – however, there isn’t really enough protection on your foot for that kind of activity. After all, these are flip flops and not climbing shoes or even sandals.
In terms of design, these are available in a wide range of colours, but all pretty simple ones.
These On The Go Vivacity Flip Flops come in black, black and white, charcoal and hot pink, grey and pink, navy and teal, navy and white, taupe, taupe and white and light blue.
We think this should be an adequate selection to suit most wardrobes – there’s nothing flash there, but just simple and classic shades, that can be mix and matched to taste.
The strap is made from a knitted looking fabric, which is nice and soft against your skin. This makes wearing them a lot more agreeable than some of the plastic thongs, which can sometimes rub against your toes and be less than comfortable.
The sole also has a soft fabric lining, making it just that bit more comfortable to wear.
All in all, these look like a good choice which should be highly comfy to have on, but also appear smart and pretty robust to boot.
But are they?
Available only in a full size, these Skechers On The Go 400 Vivacity’s range from a US size 5 to a 11. As far as we can tell, at least at the moment, these are only available in a medium fit.
As for the sizing? Well, there is an 81% approval rating – which is pretty high in our book. Most likely, if you order your regular size it should fit.
There is a small, but significant, minority for whom these were rather too small and some people state they had to size up to get a true fit.
We think that this is most likely to be the case for anyone who takes a wider fitting than the average. So maybe if this is you, it might be best to go up a size in order to get the best fit possible.
One thing nearly every respondent seems to be agreed on, is that these are a highly comfortable pair of flip flops to have on your feet.
So they should be, with their soft insole and chunky outsole. If you are looking for something to be able to slip on with ease and then forget you are wearing, these should be your number one choice.
As we have stated, these are great for the beach, for casual walking and even a little bit of rough and tumble – but just remember they are still flip flops and your feet are still rather exposed wearing them.
When it comes to getting them wet, although these are not water shoes, the traction on the sole holds up well in slippery conditions. However, the fabric straps and sole lining might render it a little longer to dry up than a purely plastic or rubber flip flop does.
These Skechers On The Go 400 Vitality Women’s Flip Flops are a thumbs up from us – they are comfortable, versatile, hard wearing and slot in well to your everyday wardrobe.
