OUR FIRST THOUGHTS
On a first inspection, these certainly look super cute. And with a well above average rating from their customers, we have high hopes for these Hawkwell Kids High Top Strap Canvas Shoes.
They come in a large variety of colors; brown-orange, navy-green, white, purple, Fuchsia, navy, black, red, gray-blue and burgundy.
These are a Velcro fastening pair, with three straps across the top of the shoe.
Made from synthetic material and canvas, these look fine and strong and the rubber soles don’t seem like they’ll give out too quickly either.
Over the toe, there is a rubber shell, protecting the toes from wearing out too soon.
The age ranges for these shoes go from a 7 in a toddler size and right up to 4 in a big kid. This is a pretty comprehensive range of sizes and within this there are also half sizes available.
Style wise, these are a high top look, with a considerable looking heel on them. So if you have a kid that’s trying to look a little taller than they really are – these are the ones to plump for.
With the range of colors and designs on offer, we feel that these are truly a unisex shoe, with options for both boys and girls.
The canvas looks particularly pliable and as if it will make for a very soft, but cozy fit.
ABOUT HAWKWELL SHOES
From their website, Hawkwell Shoes say they have been in business since 2006.
All we can see on that page is footwear and they produce quality shoes and sneakers for men, women and kids.
Even more importantly, they supply Walmart, so these are not some complete fly by night company.
Perhaps they could do with the odd English lesson, as it is clear this is a Chinese company, but in terms of the quality of output, we are quite impressed.
It is not every footwear company that we look into, which claims to come with an 18 month warranty. But this is what manufacturers Hawkwell say they are offering with these – and every other – pair of shoes.
It certainly is pretty rare to get a toddler’s shoe coming with that sort of a promise! And we are fairly sure that these shoes will be grown out of before 18 months comes to pass!
But it is a reassuring gesture all the same. However, there are a few conditions attached to the warranty.
The 18 month warranty is only for “quality issues” and is only guaranteed from ‘trusted sellers’. Happily, this list of approved sellers includes Amazon and E-bay, as well as from their own website of course.
An 18 month warranty on any shoe is a good deal and we must give Hawkwell full marks for this at the very least.
However, are you likely to find yourself needing to send them back for a refund in the first place?
We need to look further into this kid’s high top sneaker and discover some more.
Because trying to get shoes to fit, off the internet, is a bit like herding cats, whilst wading through a field of treacle, Hawkwell have handily included their own sizing guide, to help confused parents get the sizing right, first time.
These start at a size seven, in toddler sizing. This correlates to 5.9 inches in length from the tip of the toe, the base of the heel. If you can actually draw around your kids’ feet and measure this accurately, it will save you a lot of hassle sending the wrong size back later on!
A size eight is approximately 6.1 inches, a nine is 6.3 inches, nine and a half is 6.5 inches, ten is 6.7 inches, eleven is 6.9 inches and a size eleven and a half is 7.1 inches in length. The sizes continue to rise up from there, right until a four in Big Kids.
In other words, in terms of sizing, Hawkwell really has got it covered, from your preschooler right up to almost fully grown.
This is a pretty comprehensive range!
Customer satisfaction level with the fit is also encouragingly high – 82% were happy that these fit completely as expected, with no significant numbers thinking that these ran either too big or too small.
This is good news and the next thing we need to ask about is whether these shoes are as comfortable as they look!
As parents, we have to be careful when it comes to selecting shoes for our little darlings.
Because, as fussy as they can be about absolutely everything, when it comes to shoes, they usually are a pretty accepting bunch.
But we need to be mindful of the fact that their feet are still forming and growing and that they need a shoe that will allow them to do this in comfort.
All we can really measure the success of a toddler or kid shoe is by what their parents have to say. An on this score, the news is good.
The vast majority of parents have awarded these Hawkwell Kids High Top Sneakers five stars out of five, in their reviews – nearly two thirds in fact.
Those that didn’t mainly gave them four stars. There are very few for whom these Hawkwell Kid’s Canvas Shoes did not impress.
Nearly everyone has said that they thought these shoes provided a decent level of support and comfort for their kids growing feet.
SHOULD I BUY THESE KIDS SHOES?
We have racked our brains for quite some time, on the trail of some fault to be found with these kids’ canvas sneakers.
We really can’t find anything to complain about here.
These are not expensive, but look as good as a more expensive brand, will not instantly fall apart and better still, come with a warranty.
